MLA Chenani decries concretization of Patnitop tourist spot

Calling for demarcation and  fencing of forest land in the State, MLA Chenani Dina Nath Bhagat said that it would  go a long way in saving forest land from further encroachment.  The MLA said this while participating in the discussion on Demand for Grants of Forest Department in the Legislative Assembly today.Pointing out encroachment and damages to the picturesque beauty  of tourist spots like Patnitop, by constructing concrete infrastructure, he asserted that steps should be taken to curb encroachment and restrictions should be imposed on  construction of concrete structure within their jurisdiction. He said that encroachment from  Patnitop  tourist spot should be removed so that it glory could be restored.Suggesting massive plantation of dwarf, ornamental  and small size plants along the National Highway to curb the soil erosion and in exchange of trees  cut for the construction of road. He also stressed  for afforestation on the degraded  forests, saying that the state has much potential for conifer forests, besides Deodar, Kail and Fir.Underlining  the need for revival of Joint Forest Management System, Mr. Bhagat suggested that cooperation of the people with the department would go a long a way in saving the green  wealth of the State.  He  said that  the provision of supply of timber to the consumers should be simplified and fallen tree should be provided on concessional rates, adding that people friendly steps would help in protection and conservation of  forests in the state.Referring to receding levels of water, the MLA also called for construction of bandhs and ponds, saying that it would also help in soil and water conservation.
