DataGravity Appoints Industry Experts to its Security Advisory Board

Members will provide insights into real-world customer data security pain points and overall security market

NASHUA, N.H.--()--DataGravity, creator of data-aware solutions that provide security at the point of data, today announced the formation of a Security Advisory Board that includes five data security experts from a wide range of backgrounds and specialties. The board’s mission is to provide guidance as DataGravity answers the industry call for a solution that analyzes, secures and gains insights from organization’s data. The formation of the board follows the hire of DataGravity chief information security officer (CISO) Andrew Hay earlier in 2016 and further solidifies the company’s commitment to protecting and providing visibility into sensitive data.

As the security market continues to rapidly evolve, the preeminent group of experts and practitioners on the DataGravity Security Advisory Board will provide invaluable feedback on the industry. Their insights will help guide the company in its mission to deliver high-impact solutions to customers’ challenges in defining, detecting and defending critical information, wherever the data lives.

The DataGravity Security Advisory Board includes:

  • Martin Fisher, IT security manager for a Georgia hospital system: Leads information security for a multi-hospital, 13,000-employee healthcare provider; host of the popular “Southern Fried Security” podcast
  • Rick Holland, vice president of marketing at Digital Shadows: Former vice president and principal analyst at Forrester Research; co-chair of SANS Cyber Threat Intelligence Summit
  • Brian Honan, owner and CEO of BH Consulting: Internationally recognized security expert; consultant to private sector companies and government departments throughout the U.K. and Europe
  • Wendy Nather, research director at an intelligence sharing and analysis center: Previously research director of the information security practice at 451 Research; led IT security for the EMEA region of Swiss Bank Corporation (now UBS); one of SC Magazine’s Women in IT Security “Power Players” in 2014
  • Dave Shackleford, principal consultant at Voodoo Security: VMware vExpert; previously chief security officer for Configuresoft and chief technology officer for the Center for Internet Security; author of “Virtualization Security: Protecting Virtualized Environments”

“Many companies face security challenges when it comes to understanding what actually lives in their data, and need assistance putting measures in place to protect their critical information,” said Wendy Nather, research director at an intelligence sharing and analysis center. “With the help of other leading security vendors and industry advisors on the DataGravity Security Advisory Board, the company will benefit from ongoing market feedback to help develop the best possible data threat protection solutions for customers.”

“Our customers want the security and insights that come from their actual data stores – a need that has gone unmet by traditional solutions that look at from outside, such as firewalls, desktops and networks,” said Andrew Hay, DataGravity chief information security officer. “With the guidance of our Security Advisory Board, DataGravity will continue to pursue a product strategy that addresses this continued need in data security for our customers.”

The board convenes as DataGravity moves forward with development of a software-only version of its data-aware solutions. The technology, now in beta testing with customers, will be released later this year.
