CP seeks postmortem reports via e-mail
Pune: Police commissioner Rashmi Shukla on Monday advised the Sassoon General Hospital to send postmortem reports to all police stations via e-mail.
Shukla gave the suggestion during the hospital board meeting, which was chaired by its president BJP MP Anil Shirole and member Yogesh Mulik, MLA from Vadgaonsheri, among others. The idea was discussed following complaints of a delay in collecting postmortem reports from the forensic science department of the hospital.
The meeting was organised to resolve problems faced by the police and the hospital.
"Postmortem reports are collected manually by policemen, but the hospital officials have raised the issue that reports were not collected on time. I have suggested that the hospital starts sending reports to police stations via e-mail. The move aims to save manpower and time. The response from the hospital is awaited," Shukla said.
On the incidents where patients have run away from the hospital, Shukla instructed the hospital authorities to report such incidents to the nearby Bund Garden police station.
The other issues discussed in the meeting include examining rape survivors in the hospital instead of primary health centres in Pune rural areas and that postmortems in murder cases in the limits of Hadpasar and Kondhwa police stations should be conducted at the Armed Forces Medical College.
The hospital demanded that its staff be given walkie-talkie sets for emergencies. Shirole replied he will take up the matter with the state government.
