Kidnap: Man gets 3-yr jail

Sessions Judge SC Kainthla today sentenced Pradeep Kumar, a resident of Banti village in Kasauli tehsil, to three-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) and fine him Rs 20,000 for kidnapping a minor girl in April 2013. Co-accused Sunil Kumar was, however, acquitted for lack of evidence.
A minor girl was kidnapped on the night of April 30, 2013, and was kept in a forest and also in the house of co-accused Sunil Kumar.
Though allegations of rape were also levelled against Pradeep Kumar, he was acquitted of those charges for want of sufficient evidence. The matter was reported to the police by the girl’s father and the prosecution examined 17 witnesses to establish the veracity of the allegations, informed district attorney NL Sen. — TNS
