Helen Mirren Has Something To Say To Kim Kardashian

Tellin' it like it is.

Everyone’s got an opinion about Kim Kardashian and her, ahem, assets these days. But leave it to Dame Helen Mirren to tell it like it really is.

"I’m not into the Kardashians, it’s a phenomenon I just don’t find interesting,” Mirren told The Telegraph. OK, so she’s probably not tuning into "Keeping Up With The Kardashians," but she did have some nice words for KK, too.

“But … it’s wonderful that you’re allowed to have a butt nowadays! Thanks to Madame Kardashian, and before her, J-Lo. We’re also allowed to have thighs now, which is great too.”

The 70-year-old actress spoke of her own body image and confidence as she’s gotten older.

In a youth-obsessed industry, Mirren says it’s tricky being comfortable in your own skin, whether you’re young or old.

“Well, it’s terribly intimidating, you know,” she said of being at the glittering Cannes Film Festival. “Sometimes you feel wonderful and -- it’s the same whether you’re 13 or 26 or 86 -- sometimes you feel insecure and frightened.”

But she says she’s never wanted to turn back the clock for vanity’s sake. Luckily for Mirren, she says her mother instilled wisdom about aging in her at a very young age.

“She told me that when I was 20 I would dread the idea of being 40. But that when I was 40 I’d never want to be 20 again,” Mirren said. “She was so right.”

It’s a motto she’s carried forward into her role as a brand ambassador for beauty brand L’Oreal Paris in which she insists she’s “Gold, not old.”

Mirren also happens to be a “late bloomer,” who didn’t make her mark in Hollywood until after 40. Perhaps it’s that experience that has put her at ease with her advancing years, though she’s called Hollywood’s blatant ageism “outrageous.”

Aging, she says, has its pros and cons. “I loved being young but I’ve enjoyed every stage in different ways,” she said. “It’s all part of the wonderful process of being a human being.”

Now in her 70s, she says she’s “relieved” to no longer have sex symbol status. We’re pretty sure she’s still got it.
