National Award winning, Bengali filmmaker, Srijit Mukherjee is all set to remake his own film, Rajkahini in Hindi and the director has roped in Vidya Balan to play the lead role. Vidya Balan has an author-backed role with her playing a madam of a brothel. Today Mumbai Mirror tells us who all are chosen to play the supporting cast. Playing the roles of prostitutes are Pallavi Sharda, Priyanka Sethia, Flora Saini, Gauhar Khan, Ridhima Tiwari, Ravija Chauhan and Poonam Rajput. Confirming the news, Srijit said, “The characters are set in the Partition era and have faced a lot of adversities in life, so I wanted actors who could understand the emotions, pain and the never-say-die attitude. These girls fit the roles perfectly.”
The film will also feature veteran actress Ila Arun and Kaanchi fame Mishti, though not as prostitutes. Srijit didn't want to reveal much about the male cast, which includes Rajit Kapoor, Vivek Mushran, Rajesh Sharma, Pitobash, Ashish Vidyarthi and Sumit Nijhawan, some of which play police officers, while others will be seen as pimps or gate-keepers.
It also seems like the director has already begun preparing the girls. He has asked them to read books on the partition and prostitution.
The film rolls mid June and will be shot at various locations in Jharkhand, Punjab and Delhi. It is produced by Mukesh and Mahesh Bhatt.
