Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq has announced the names of a 17-member’s squad for the England tour in a press conference held in Lahore.
According to local media report, Inzamam said that, selection has been made purely on performance. He further justify the selection of 17 member squad by saying that, England tour is long as Pakistan will play ODI matches after Test matches. Misbah-ul-Haq shall be leading the side. Other players selected in the squad include Mohammad Hafeez, Shan Masood, and Sami Aslam as openers. The middle order shall comprise of skipper Misbah, Younis Khan, Azhar Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed and Asad Shafiq.
Wahab Riaz, Sohail Khan, Mohammad Amir, Rahat Ali and Imran Khan have been included in the side as fast bowlers. The spinners include Zulfiqar Babar and Yasir Shah whereas Sarfraz Ahmad and Mohammad Rizwan have been picked as wicket-keepers.
Inzamam said that the doctors have declared Yasir Shah, Mohammad Hafeez and Zulfiqar Babar fit to play for the team. However, he said that Mohammad Amir’s selection is conditional to his England visa, which is still in process.
Reportedly, the team is likely to leave for the tour on June 18 and hold a training camp in Hampshire before their first match against Somerset starting on July 5 and another against Sussex from July 8. As per report, the chief selector expressed hope that the team would perform well and produce good results.
Pakistan will start their England tour with the first Test scheduled on 14th of next month, which will be followed by three more Tests, five ODIs and a T20.
