A high powered trade mission will bring the best of British expertise in innovative healthcare solutions to India from June 6 - 8.

Sir Malcolm Grant, Chairman of the National Health Service (NHS) England, will lead the delegation of 23 British companies and NHS trusts. The delegation will visit New Delhi and Mumbai. Sir Malcolm will also visit Bengaluru.

The delegation of leading NHS hospital and healthcare trusts, as well as pioneering British companies whose innovative solutions are delivering results across health and care economies in the UK and globally, will showcase their expertise in the ‘Smart Healthcare Demonstrator’ exhibition in New Delhi and Mumbai.

At the inauguration of the ‘Smart Healthcare Demonstrator’ in New Delhi, Sir Malcolm Grant said:

The UK has developed some of the most innovative healthcare services and systems in the world over the past seven decades of the NHS. The UK has an unmatched combination of clinical, technological and academic expertise.

Sir Malcolm added:

I hope that our visit will help write a new chapter in the history of India’s health services, both in the private sector and in the Union government’s ambition to provide universal healthcare. British expertise is ideally placed to play a significant role in helping India bring the best smart healthcare to its smart cities programme.

This delegation comes after a bilateral agreement between the UK and India during PM Modi’s visit to the UK, where the two Prime Ministers emphasised the potential of increased investment and co-operation between the two countries in health-related sectors.

With an eye on the increasing Indian market, the delegation represents the UK’s thriving ecosystem of researchers, scientists, engineers, designers, NHS clinicians, and an unrivalled network of healthcare professionals. The programme will include showcases on themes such as ‘Transforming hospital and emergency care’, ‘Innovative integrated care services’ and ‘Building human capital’.

Sir Dominic Asquith KCMG, British High Commissioner to India said:

It is almost three months since I arrived in India and I can already see vast opportunities for our two countries to form closer partnerships. The healthcare sector – where the UK is a world leader – exemplifies the potential for greater collaboration.

The High Commissioner added:

The Indian government wants to provide universal healthcare and adopt ‘smart healthcare’ to support sustainable, world-class services for the Indian people. The UK has the expertise and technology to support every aspect of India’s healthcare systems and services. There is no better time than now for the UK and India to partner and shape the future of Indian healthcare.

In New Delhi, Sir Malcolm Grant will call on senior officials in the Union Health Ministry and hold a roundtable with representatives from leading hospitals in north India. In Bengaluru, he will meet top names in the healthcare and life sciences sector like Dr Devi Shetty and leading bio-science companies in the city. In Mumbai, he will jointly inaugurate the exhibition with Maharashtra Health Minister Mr Deepak Sawant and by Dr Pratap Reddy from Apollo Hospitals. He will discuss strengthening ties between the UK and Maharashtra in the healthcare sector. He will also meet private hospitals, innovative companies and hold an interactive session with medical students in Mumbai’s King Edward Memorial College.

The delegation will put up exhibits in New Delhi and Mumbai, where they will demonstrate their expertise and knowhow to Indian healthcare providers, hospitals and investors. They will discuss their innovations and technologies with Indian counterparts, and seek opportunities for investments and partnerships.
