A 55-year-old man and his son were electrocuted near Arni on Sunday.

According to Arni taluk police, Jayaraman and his son Selvam (35) have been working in an agricultural field belonging to Balu in Araiyalam village in Arni taluk for nearly seven years.

An overhead electricity wire running across the field had snapped and fell on the land following strong wind on Saturday night. As part of their routine, Jayaraman and Selvam had gone to the field for work at 6.30 a.m. on Sunday. They failed to notice the wire that was lying on the field.

Selvam stepped on the wire and was electrocuted. His father was also electrocuted when he tried to save him, police said. — Staff Reporter
