The alarming report released by the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) last month, claiming that chemicals used in breads lead to cancer, has affected the bakery industry in Belagavi.

Belagavi: The alarming report released by the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) last month, claiming that chemicals used in breads lead to cancer, has affected the bakery industry in Belagavi.
Amid this report, the Belgaum Bakers Association claimed that breads and buns prepared in the city and district are completely safe as they free of chemicals.

Contesting the report, Shivaji Jadhav, president of Belagavi Bakers Association claimed that no type of chemicals are used in making breads or buns in Belagavi. "Probably branded companies might be using such chemicals to keep their products for long time from obliterated," he said.
Satish, owner of New Bangalore Aiyangar Bekari in Shahapur, said there is no need of using chemicals in breads.
