CM issuing misleading ads to please PM, says Jakhar
Jalandhar: Punjab Congress vice-president and spokesperson Sunil Jakhar has claimed that Punjab government has been issuing misleading advertisements to please Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"The facts and figures in the ads are away from the reality and their only purpose is to please Modi ," said Jakhar, adding that this was being done because chief minister Parkash Singh Badal apprehended trouble his daughter-in-law, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, during the reshuffle in the Union cabinet.
"PM Modi is set to reshuffle his cabinet after completing two years in power. Badal is only ensuring that his daughter-in-law's chair is protected," he said.
Showing a recent ad released by the Punjab government to thank the PM, Jakhar said Punjab government claimed that Rs 35,263 crore was given to the state. "This claim is a plain lie," he said, addressing a press conference here on Sunday.
He said around 80% of the projects mentioned in the advertisement were sanctioned during UPA-II in 2012-13. "In this ad, Badal government has claimed that the Union government released Rs 19,891.94 crore for road projects in Punjab.
But, in a reply to a question raised by me on March 18 this year in the state assembly, the state government said total projects were worth Rs 16,514 crore," he said. "Now, the CM should explain this gap," he added.
He pointed out that the state government claimed that under Amrut Yojna, it received Rs 3,915 crore for 16 towns from the Centre. "But, when I asked about in the state assembly on January 28, it was revealed that the total grant for the state under Amrut Yojna was Rs 318 crore. Of this, only Rs 63 crore was released to the state," he said.
Turning towards the funds claimed under Smart City Project, Jakhar said the state government's ad claimed that it received Rs 500 crore for developing Jalandhar, Amritsar and Ludhiana.
"But, the cities have only received Rs 2 crore each under this project. The fact was admitted by the state government while replying to a query in March," he said.
