A thunderstorm around midnight of Saturday-Sunday became the cause of a power outage which engulfed as many as 9 mandals in Adilabad district.

Uprooted trees and snapped power lines plunged the district headquarter town and Adilabad mandal besides the mandals of Bela, Jainad, Tamsi, Talamadugu, Gudihatnoor, Indervelli, Utnoor and Narnoor.

The storm hit Adilabad from the north at about 11 p.m. and lasted for about 45 minutes. As the storm caused snapping of power cables immediately, there was no way of assessing damage in the night.

Hundreds of trees were uprooted, especially from the avenue plantation on the main roads in Adilabad town and along the villages lying on the NH 44.

“Some 7 power feeders were damaged in the storm,” revealed Adilabad Superintending Engineer, Norther Power Distribution Company Limited, J.R. Chavaan.

The five feeders on the 132 KV line in Adilabad cut power supply to the mandals of Bela, Jainad, Tamsi and Talamadugu while damage to cables in the three feeders supplying electricity to Gudihatnoor, Indervelli, Utnoor and Narnoor resulted in darkness. The NPDCL staff began repair operations early in the day but could restore partial power supply only by 10 a.m. on Sunday.Banswada receives

Banswada mandal received the highest rainfall of 21.4 mm followed by Jukkal - 21.2 mm, and Madnur - 20.2 mm.
