Minister for Local Administration K.T. Jaleel launched a pre-monsoon cleanliness drive at Mini Pampa, Kuttippuram, on Sunday.

He called upon all sections of the society to clean up their premises before the monsoon as the waste left in the rain would cause contamination of water bodies.

Mr. Jaleel said that the State was preparing to enter a new era in cleanliness. Before the next Kerala Day, everyone in the State will have toilets.

The government is striving to achieve this goal, he said.

Tavanur grama panchayat president K.P. Subramanian presided. Saji N. Ramakrishnan, medical officer at Community Health Centre, Tavanur, presented a report. Panchayat vice-president P. Subaida, councillors T.V. Sivadas, T. Gopi, C. Sunita and K.P. Abdul Nasar, panchayat secretary Y.P. Mohammed Ashraf and health inspector P.V. Venugopal spoke.
