CHENNAI: The Pallavaram police on Sunday arrested a 45-year-old man for allegedly posing as a police inspector and demanding money from a construction worker.
Samsudin, a native of Tiruvannamalai who came to Chennai looking for a job, allegedly stopped the construction worker, Ganesh, near the Pallavaram railway station and claimed that he was a police inspector.
He demanded Rs 1,000 from the construction worker.
“When Ganesh refused to give him money, Samsudin allegedly slapped him,” said a police officer.
Passersby intervened, nabbed Samsudin and handed him over to the police.
A case has been registered, and Samsudin has been remanded in judicial custody.
