Family of 4 found dead, mass suicide suspected in Alwar
Alwar: A couple and their two sons allegedly killed themselves by consuming some poisonous substance in a village near Karauli's Sapotara area. Their bodies were found on the agriculture farm where the couple worked as caretakers. The police recovered a pesticide bottle that was lying near the bodies. They suspect that the family consumed it. However, it can only be confirmed after post-mortem, the police said.
The police are also trying to ascertain the reason that drove the family to take such an extreme step.
The incident took place at Bhartun Dabara village. The deceased were identified as Rajendra Meena (50), his wife Pirvo Devi (48) and their two sons Ramavtar (30) and Ataram Meena (25). They were residents of a nearby village, but since the couple worked as caretakers, the family stayed at the agriculture farm belonging to the village's former sarpanch.
The bodies were spotted on Saturday morning when some members of the owner's family went to the farm. They informed the police. As the news spread like wildfire, the residents of the village gathered there and staged a protest demanding an on-the-post post-mortem of the bodies. Additional police force was deployed there to maintain law and order. Local police officers rushed to the spot to placate the villagers. They said that the villagers finally agreed to allow the police to remove the bodies from the spot and send them for post-mortem.
"We have recovered a pesticide bottle from the spot. So it seems that all the family members consumed it to commit suicide. However, we have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination and are awaiting the report. Only after that, we would be able to ascertain the cause of death," said a senior police officer.
The officer said that they have found out about the family's financial problems. "It may have driven them to take this extreme step. We have launched an investigation into," said the officer.
