Ahmedabad: Exonerated from the Akshardham terror attack case, Mufti Abdul Qayyum Mansuri of Dariapur is now setting up an English medium school with help of prominent religious scholars in minority-dominated Kalupur area of the city. The school will begin operations from the new academic year beginning on June 15. A formal announcement for the school, named 'Suffah English Medium School', located in an eight-room building at Karoda Pole in Kalupur, will be made on Sunday morning.

Mansuri said the school has received permission from the state authorities. "Currently, the school will have nursery, junior KG, senior KG and class I. We will move an application to the government for permission to start higher classes soon," he added.
"Our effort is to impart true Islamic values among Muslim kids, along with providing modern education in English medium to help them keep in step with the world. The growing saffronisation of today's education is also a concern," said Mansuri.
Mansuri is one of the trustees of the school, whose secretary is Mufti Rizwan Saudagar.
In the terrorist attack on Akshardham temple, Gandhinagar, that took place in September 2002, Mansuri had been accused of providing logistics support to terrorists. In the attack, 32 people, including temple visitors and three commandos had been killed.
Those who lost their lives included one National Security Guard (NSG) commando.
Mansuri was convicted by a POTA court in July 2010, but on May 16, 2014, the Supreme Court acquitted six accused including Mansuri from all charges in the case.
Last year, Mansuri had penned a book on his experiences in police custody, and 11-year-long incarceration as an accused. The book was titled 'Gyarah Saal Salakhon Ke Peeche'.
