Surat: Farmers and visitors from across the country will be arriving in Navsari to attend the two-day long inter-state horticulture fair 'Sangam-2016' which is being organized by National Horticulture Board (NHB) at Navsari Agriculture University (NAU) from Sunday.
This is first time that the NHB is organizing an inter-state horticulture fair in Gujarat, that too in Navsari.
Last year, the fair was organized in Bihar.
Official sources said the main objective of the NHB is to improve integrated development of horticulture industry and to help in coordinating, sustaining the production and processing of fruits and vegetables.
The Sangam fair will be inaugurated by Union minister of agriculture Radha Mohan Singh. Union minister of state for agriculture Mohan Kundariya and Gujarat agriculture minister Babubhai Bokhiriya will remain present at the function.
Incharge principal and dean of Aspee College of Horticulture and Forestry, NAU, BN Patel said, "During the two-day long fair, farmers from across the state and many parts of the country will be displaying and selling their fruits, vegetables and other farm products. Visitors can attend the fair and purchase the products."
Progressive farmers from south Gujarat are unhappy with the NHB over its decision to not allow fresh letter of intent (LOI) for the new projects under the financial assistance scheme. The NHB issued a circular on April 19 not allowing fresh LOIs due to shortage of funds and the pending subsidy claims of over Rs250 crore by farmers.
