Cong MLA attacked in Bishnupur

Bishnupur (Bankura): Alleged Trinamool supporters attacked Congress MLA Tushar Kanti Bhattacharya and former CPM MLA Monoranjan Patra at Saltora More on Saturday night. Both Opposition leaders ran into the Amdangra police outpost for shelter and were still there till reports last came in. Trinamool men also barged into the outpost, demanding that the cops arrest Bhattacharya and Patra for "provoking violence".A tense standoff was on between Trinamool supporters and Congress-CPM supporters who rushed there on hearing the news.
Bhattacharya said: "We decided to go to Saltora after a massive attack by Trinamool men, led by former minister Shyama Prasad Mukherjee. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee has sent a message to party workers to remain calm but the picture in Bankura is just the opposite." Mukherjee denied the allegation, saying it was a nothing but a "collusion between CPM and Congress". Bhattacharya had defeated Trinamool's Mukherjee by a margin of only 891 votes. - Falguni Banerjee
