BHUBANESWAR/BERHAMPUR/SAMBALPUR: Eight persons were
killed and two others were critically injured on Saturday in separate road accidents occurred at different places in the districts of Ganjam, Kendrapada, Puri, Koraput, Bolangir and Sambalpur.
In Ganjam, at least three people were killed in three different road accidents in the district. A 35-year-old Hadu Das was killed on the spot at Haladiapadara under Golanthara police limits on the outskirts of Berhampur city when an unidentified vehicle run over him.
In the second incident, Pradip Pradhan, 34, died when a motorcycle hit him at Kalyansinghpur under Digapahandi police limits in the district.
Digaphandi police station inspector-in-charge AK Sethi said Pradhan succumbed to his injuries at MKCG medical college hospital.
In another mishap, Bansidhara Mohanty, 38, of Deulipada under Kodala area was killed when a sand-laden truck ran over him at K Nuagaon under Aska police limits in the district. Police seized the truck, but couldn’t arrest the driver.
In Sambalpur, a 14-year-old boy died and his 13-year-old friend sustained severe injuries after the two-wheeler, they were riding, hit by a truck near Naxapali on the Cuttack- Sambalpur National Highway under the Dhanupali police station of the city. Both the deceased, Krushna Chandra Dash, and the injured Basu Behera were the students of Khandual High School.
After the
accident, the irate residents blocked the national highway for more than three hours demanding compensation for the family of the deceased. The irate mob, however, withdrew the agitation after having discussion with the police.
In Puri district, one Bijay Khadei died on the spot when a speeding bike hit his motorcycle from behind at Sarbapada Chak under Nimapada police station. The incident occurred while Khadei was going to his sister’s house at Konark with Sabitri gift. The body was sent to Charichak hospital for postmortem.
In Kendrapada district, a man died when a bus hit his motorcycle at Barimul Chhak under Pattamundai police station.
Similarly, two people were killed in two separate accidents occurred at Koraput’s Mundaguda and Bolangir’s Khaprakhol area.
