Kin of policemen warned of eviction

After invoking ESMA against police constables if they participate in the “mass leave” protest on Saturday, the government on Friday held out the threat of evicting them from their housing quarters if the family members of constables participate in the protest on their behalf.

Home Minister G. Parameshwara, who has been holding talks on fulfilment of the demands of constables, told presspersons: “We will not tolerate it. A decision has been taken to evict constables from housing quarters given to them by the government if their family members participate in the protest.”

Leaders of some organisations met family members of constables and were “instigating” them to participate in the protest, he said. The Home Minister said constables had withdrawn their mass leave applications and “there will not be strike tomorrow [June 4].” Weekly offs to constables have been made mandatory and sanction officers have been instructed in this regard.
