Ambika Soni, Bhunder back in RS unopposed
CHANDIGARH: SAD's Balwinder Bhunder and Congress's Ambika Soni were both re-elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha on Friday. Bhunder, a former MLA from Sardulgarh in Malwa, has been playing a key role in managing poll campaign of Union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal. There were murmurs that he was initially upset with the SAD party boss Sukhbir Badal for not being sent to the cabinet.
Neither Sukhbir nor CM were present at the election.
Bhunder was accompanied by fellow RS colleague Sukhdev Dhindsa, his son Parminder Dhindsa and cabinet minister Surjit Rakhra.
There were glimpses of odd silence in the room of returning officer of Punjab assembly secretary Shashi Lakhanpal Mishra as Soni reached while Bhunder's election result was being announced. The father-son Dhindsa duo was seen exchanging greetings with the opposition camp. While Bhunder is a three-time Rajya Sabha MP, Soni set a record by getting elected from the Upper House for the fifth time. tnn
