Pippa O’Connor has spoken out about her experience of breastfeeding and urged mums to choose whatever feeding option works for them.

The fashion personality and her husband Brian Ormond welcomed their second child, Louis, last month, and are also parents to three-year-old Ollie.

Before Louis was born, the 31-year-old documented her pregnancy on her blog, and since his birth, she has also opened up about feeding.

“You should do what you want and do what works for you and your baby,” she said on her Snapchat account, noting that her followers had thanked her for her openness about breastfeeding.

“I got so many comments about breastfeeding which I was surprised by, comments saying things like, ‘Thanks for highlighting it.’ I forgot how maybe little it’s done here.”

The Kildare native also encouraged women not to feel uncomfortable when breastfeeding in public.

“I don’t think anyone should feel embarrassed. I would feed Louis anywhere and I wouldn’t care. For me, it felt like a natural option,” she said.

Pippa reflected on her personal history of breastfeeding, explaining that she had seen many of her female relatives opt for it as she was growing up.

“My mum breastfed us, I saw my sister do it, I saw my aunts do it and to be honest I find it easier than the bottles and sterilising.”

She added that formula-feeding has the benefit of allowing other members of the family to help out, and that she has been using a combination of the two.

“What we do now is Brian will give Louis (a feed) in the middle of the night, so it’s good he learns both,” she said.

“You should do what you want and do what works for you and your baby. It it works, brilliant, and don’t be embarrassed if you’re out and about.”
