30 injured as drunken youths run amok in Mandya

Marital dispute involving two couples took an ugly turn when over 30 drunken youths, who are relatives of two women, ransacked houses and thrashed residents in Kavadihalli village, Nagamangala taluk, on Wednesday night.

MANDYA: Marital dispute involving two couples took an ugly turn when over 30 drunken youths, who are relatives of the women, ransacked houses and thrashed residents in Kavadihalli village, Nagamangala taluk, on Wednesday night.
Police said that the youths ran amok, damaging roofs of several houses, household items and electrical appliances. More than 30 persons, who were injured in the attack, are undergoing treatment.
Siblings Yogeswari and Priyanaka married Rangaswamy and Jaiswamy, who also happen to be brothers, three years ago. The couples belong to the same village.
After differences cropped up, the women separated from their husbands, and had to let go of their properties.
Yogeswari and Priyanka lodged dowry harassment cases against their husbands, which are currently pending in court. On Wednesday, when they visited Nagamangala town to attend a court hearing, Rangaswamy, Jaiswamy and other relatives threatened them of dire consequences if they did not withdraw the cases.
Rangaswamy, Jaiswamy and their relatives thrashed the two women when they returned to the village. Agitated relatives of Yogeswari and Priyanka decided to settle the score and went on a ransacking spree in the night. They destroyed properties and did not spare anyone who came in their way.
Police said that the situation is under control and a platoon of the KSRP has been deployed in the village. DySP Janardhan and other senior police officers visited the village. A case has been registered in Nagamangala police station.
