Amid a complete strike by government employees in Dakshina Kannada district as a part of the State-wide strike called by the Karnataka State Government Employees Association demanding pay parity, staff of the Mangaluru City Corporation continued normal work on Thursday.
However, the employees, numbering around 400, held a demonstration in front of the corporation office for one hour, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., to lend support to the demand before resuming work, said Gokuldas Nayak, Joint Commissioner of the corporation. Mr. Nayak said that the employees, however, wore black badges during work.
Elsewhere, almost all government offices in the district and the city wore a deserted look with employees abstaining from work. Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner, told The Hindu that workers on outsourced duties were on their job. Hence, counters such as Bhoomi, Atalji Janasnehi Kendra, etc., functioned normally and the public were not affected, he said.
Meanwhile, almost all government educational institutions in the district did not function as the teachers too took part in the one-day strike.
