Edinson Cavani a potential Premier League target - Diego Forlan

Uruguay international Edinson Cavani may be a good target for a Premier League club this summer, says Diego Forlan, who retired from the national team in 2015 but still plays club football with Penarol.

Cavani joined Paris Saint-Germain from Napoli in 2013 for €60 million but has struggled to produce his best form, having regularly been fielded out wide to accommodate first-choice centre-forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who will leave the Ligue 1 club this summer.

Forlan, 37, said Cavani, Luis Suarez and Diego Godin are just three of the world-class players on the Uruguay team, who start in the Copa America Centenario on June 5 against Mexico in Phoenix.

"If he's not playing regularly, then yes [he should leave PSG]," Forlan told ESPN FC's Andy Mitten. "He's a good player who scores consistently, he should be playing regularly. Maybe Zlatan Ibrahimovic going will change things for him, but Cavani is a top player. He has all the attributes. He scores, he's quick, he shoots with both feet, he's good in the air. Maybe he'd be good in England."

Cavani said earlier this week that he would hold talks with PSG boss Laurent Blanc this summer before deciding his future

He told a news conference while with the Uruguay national team on Tuesday: "I have a contract at the moment with PSG, but first I must talk about certain things with the coach.

"The decision to stay or not is not down to just one person but should be between the coach and the player, with lots of factors on the table."
