Head of journalists syndicate Yahia Qallash welcomed Thursday representatives of trade unions and political delegations, which visited the syndicate to declare solidarity with journalists. Qallash said that the syndicate is not a political party, and they distinguish between professional and political work, stressing that this inherited culture of the union since the era of the first ever head Kamel Zuhairy. A Cairo prosecution on Wednesday referred head of journalists syndicate Yahia Qalash along with two other members-- Khaled Al-Balshy and Gamal Abdel Rehim-- for trial on charges of glossing over outlaws. Two journalists, accused of inciting violence and seeking to overthrow the regime, were arrested earlier in May after staging a sit-in in the headquarters of the press syndicate, downtown Cairo. The three defendants also face charges of spreading false news.
