he West Jakarta Police have arrested a babysitter who allegedly assaulted an 11-month-old toddler at a house on Jl. Ratu Melati IV in Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta.
Jakarta Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Awi Setiyono said a group of West Jakarta Police officers nabbed Mutiah, 23, from her hideout in Central Lampung on Tuesday. She is currently undergoing questioning.
The alleged abuse was recorded on CCTV, in which the babysistter is seen throwing and shaking the baby several times. The two-minutes video, which the baby’s mother, Nely Chao, uploaded and posted onto her Facebook account on May 26, has been watched almost 100,000 times and shared 36,000 times.
“Parents of the baby filed a police report on May 29,” said Awi as quoted by tribunnews.com.
Mutiah is said to have worked with the family for more than two months and according to the police has admitted that she often treated the baby harshly when she lost her patience.
She will be charged under Article 80 of the Child Protection Law or Article 351 Paragraph 1 on assault of the Criminal Code, which carry a maximum 42 month and 32 month prison term, respectively.
