She is known for singular taste in clothes and this time was no exception.

Rihanna perhaps stopped a few cars as she went shopping in busy New York City on Sunday with a friend, before heading for dinner with Naomi Campbell.

The 28-year-old Diamonds singer was swathed neck to ankle in a billowy and brightly patterned kaftan maxi-dress that hid her figure's curves very well.

The dress was predominantly blue with yellow, red and green swirls against a white background and featured a flaring hem that fluttered above her platform trainers.

The star wore her hair in a beguiling topknot with floral decorations arranged on the crown of her head.

Dark red lipstick and a colourful handbag gave her appearance a definite boost.

Rihanna, who was accompanied by a friend, stopped by MAC store and perused the make-up selections.

Afterwards, Rihanna and her pal headed off to dinner at Emilio's Ballato, where she was seen emerging later with stunning supermodel Naomi.

Naomi, 46, looked typically sensational in a heavily printed dress that showed off her perky cleavage while covering the rest of her lithe curves.

Rihanna, no doubt, deserved some downtime following her busy week that included a long photo shoot on Friday.

She began work in front of the camera in the early morning hours, took a break and then returned to work in the afternoon.

The Barbadian singer was seen wandering around the crew wearing a strapless pin-striped maxi dress.

Rihanna is enjoying some time off from her Anti World Tour, which will pick up again for the European leg in Amsterdam on June 17.

She will wrap the Europe tour in August, with one additional performance in Abu Dhabi planned for November 27.
