Almost a fortnight after Hansal Mehta revealed to Mirror that his (tentatively titled) 'Simran's leading lady Kangana Ranaut would watch a series of Gujarati plays and films as part of the prep, the three-time National Award-winning actress turned up at the Tejpal Auditorium in Grant Road to catch a play titled, 'Baa Tane Hun Kya Rakhu', on Sunday evening.
"I was told by the film's team on Sunday morning that Kangana and Hansal wanted to watch the play.
We were more than happy to host them. Kangana loved the play and was curious about the story, language and the setting. During the interval, she asked me what Gujarati terms like 'Hun Aavu Chu' meant and wanted to know if the actors wore collar mics while performing on the stage," informs the play's producer, Kaustubh Trivedi.

Incidentally, the play also features veteran actress Rohini Hattangadi. "She remembered my performances in 'Gandhi', 'Chaalbaaz' and 'Agneepath' and is a lovely girl. I had first seen her in 'Gangster' and had loved her performance, which I told her on Sunday. She was very cute in 'Queen' as well. Hansal was explaining the dialogues to her," Rohini says excitedly.

Kangana, who starts shooting for 'Simran' in June in Atlanta, San Francisco, San Jose and Las Vegas, met with the actors backstage. "She interacted with them and was happy clicking pictures. In fact, she was surprised to know that this was our 195th show. The team has shown interest in watching more Gujarati plays in the forthcoming weeks," reveals Kaustubh.

'Simran' is about an ambitious Gujarati girl who gets involved in petty crime in California, US. "I play a bank robber. The story is inspired by real-life incidents but not directly by Sandeep Kaur. It's about a Gujarati girl who dreams of making it big. She sets out to fulfill her mother's dreams but ends up losing everything," the 29-year-old actress had revealed to Mirror (August 13, 2015).

Meanwhile, Hansal and Kangana will also visit Gujarat for a few days, and besides spending time with the locals in Ahmedabad, will also meet and interact with Gujarati NRIs settled in the US to understand their lifestyle. "We will keep Kangana's look extremely authentic to the culture," Hansal shares.
