A 28-year-old woman has been arrested after abandoning her one-month-old baby in a building in KwaZulu-Natal.

According to Reaction Unit‚ the woman was apprehended by a Tongaat businessman after she abandoned the child on a flight of stairs in Arbee Arcade on Gopalall Hurbans Road in Tongaat on Monday.

“…The mother of the baby explained that she and her boyfriend were experiencing domestic problems‚ which resulted in her actions. She stated that she was walking around aimlessly and decided to find a quiet place to breast feed the baby.

“After she was done‚ she admitted that she abandoned the baby on the staircase and was exiting the building when she was confronted by the businessman‚” Reaction Unit said in a statement.

The mother and baby were handed over to the police for further investigation.

This was the second baby to be found abandoned at the same building within recent months‚ Reaction Unit said.

“In March this year‚ a day-old baby was found abandoned in a shopping bag.”

On Friday‚ a Durban man was nabbed by police in Besters‚ near KwaMashu‚ after attempting to sell a baby girl for R600.
