Even as restoration work was underway, officials attempted to normalize traffic by diverting slow trains between Mumbai Central and Dadar on the fast tracks.

A spokesperson for Western Railway said, "The incident happened at 2.15 am while carrying out shunting operation. The coach was pulled into the Lower Parel workshop when it derailed. The OHE too was damaged, thus affecting services on Up and Down lines."
It will take at least two to three more hours to restore the line.
