SFI for more seats in state colleges

Guwahati: Students' Federation of India (SFI) has urged the BJP-led government in the state to ensure adequate number of seats in colleges and universities here.
According to SFI's assessment, there is a dearth of 20% seats for students at the undergraduate level in the state. At the postgraduate level, there is a shortage of 60%.
"As admission in major colleges is about to begin, we urge the newly formed government to ensure that all eligible students get admission in undergraduate and postgraduate courses," said secretary of the Assam unit of SFI, Nirangkush Nath.

SFI also urged education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to regulate the fee structure of private educational institutions.
"The government must also take urgent measures to ensure that 25% seats in unaided private institutions are reserved for economically weaker students," Nath said.
