Burglars broke into a house belonging to a Tangedco employee at Tatabad here on Sunday and looted 23 sovereigns of gold ornaments and 2.12lakh in cash.

Coimbatore: Burglars broke into a house belonging to a Tangedco employee at Tatabad here on Sunday and looted 23 sovereigns of gold ornaments and 2.12lakh in cash. Police said, the inhabitants had gone to a temple in Nagercoil, Kanyakumari district, when the incident happened.
According to police, R Jayadevi, 32, resides with her two daughters and father at the Tangedco staff quarters at Tatabad.
She is a technical assistant at Tangedco in Tatabad. Her husband Rajan, who works as an electrician in Oman, had returned to Coimbatore for a short visit a few weeks ago.
On Saturday night, the family had locked the house and had gone to a temple in Nagarcoil. Jayadevi's neighbour had noticed that the front door of the house was broken open and informed her immediately. She alerted Kattoor police (crime) inspector A Manimozhi and the police team rushed to the spot.
Police said, the burglars broke open the main door of the house and took away 23 sovereigns of gold ornaments and 2.12lakh in cash. The family returned home on Sunday evening and lodged a complaint with police. A sniffer dog and finger print experts were pressed into service. Two finger prints were lifted from the crime scene.
Kattoor police registered a case under Sections 457 (lurking house trespass or house breaking by night in order to commit offence) and 380 (theft in the dwelling place) of the Indian Penal Code. Police inspector Manimozhi said that three special teams have been formed to nab the burglars.
