BENGALURU: Stopping a man from riding on footpath in Koramangala on Monday morning proved costly for a youngster. Ankit Chowdhary, a founder of iService, was slapped many times by the aggressive traffic offender for trying to videograph the offence.
Ankit's Facebook post with a video of the episode became viral on Monday. The incident happened at Wipro Park Circle near Flipkart office around 10.40am.
The video showed a man riding a black scooter on the footpath. As Ankit began shooting the video, the man got off from his bike and slapped Ankit. He was also seen raising the helmet to hit him.
"There are always some people who break the law and ride on footpaths and it's an inconvenience to pedestrians. So I duly take photos and report them --- hoping that it will slowly reduce. Today's guy was an exception as soon as I took the photo, he stopped his bike and rushed towards me to hit," Ankit wrote on his FB wall.
As the man approached him, Ankit started recording a video. "He tried to smash my phone thinking that video/photos will get destroyed. I think the mic (sic) stopped working somewhere there," Ankit wrote.
Within hours of the incident, the FB post was shared more than 300 times, including city traffic police. As it was a case of assault, Ankit was advised to approach Koramangala police to lodge a complaint. The vehicle was registered in the name of Hanume Gowda.
"We have received a complaint of assault based on which a non-cognizable offence report has been generated. We will approach a court for further instructions to take the case forward," said a police officer.
