A leadership conclave of 52 Sangh Parivar organisations, including the Bharatiya Janata Party, held in Kochi on Monday for reviewing the Assembly poll outcome is understood to have taken strong exception to the party decision to field election committee members, alleged lapses in fund distribution, and deployment of senior leaders for the campaign.

The Samanwaya Baitak, held at the behest of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, is reported to have scrutinised the role and performance of all Sangh Parivar organisations that played a pivotal role in running the poll campaign.

Party sources told The Hindu here that certain participants at the conclave were critical of the failure of the party top brass in effectively sending across a message of camaraderie, which the RSS sought to create by curbing factionalism and bringing back senior leaders such as K.Raman Pillai and P.P.Mukundan to the party.

The decision to have the entire leadership, including State president Kummanam Rajaeskharan, as well as members on the election committee and former presidents to run for the elections reportedly drew flak from some of the participants.

Campaign issues

They felt that the main leaders on the committee were unable to tackle the campaign issues and also concentrate on deploying important leaders for campaigning all over the State.

Disbursal of funds for the candidates also is understood to have come up for discussions at the session. Some of the participants are learnt to have complained about the anomalies in distributing the funds among the candidates.

Though the BJP and its allies had contested as National Democratic Alliance with the Bharath Dharma Jana Sena (BDJS) as its principal ally, the role of the allies in the campaigning also came up for review. While certain leaders felt that the BDJS had played a significant role in improving the performance of the front, a section of BJP leaders, sceptical in aligning with the fledgling party, is understood to have complained that it alienated the traditional captive voters from the party.

The meeting has reportedly resolved to unofficially identify candidates for the coming Lok Sabha elections and concentrate on the segments to sustain the edge the party has gained in the Assembly elections.
