SHIMLA: A three-day international conference on “Migrations and Citizenships” being organised at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS) in collaboration with Harpur College of Arts and Sciences, Binghamton (SUNY), was inaugurated here today.

Shimla, May 30

A three-day international conference on “Migrations and Citizenships” being organised at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS) in collaboration with Harpur College of Arts and Sciences, Binghamton (SUNY), was inaugurated here today.

Professor Anne McCall, Dean, Harpur College of Arts and Sciences, Bainghaton University, delivered the inaugural speech. The key note address was delivered by Professor Ranabir Samaddar from Distinguished Chair in Migration and Forced Migration Studies, Calcutta Research Group, Kolkata.

Roberto Patricio Korzeniewicz from University of Maryland, USA, tried to identify country and region-specific patterns of outgoing and incoming migration. He tried to assess the relative weight of specific variables like wage differentials, income inequality, civil war, famine, geopolitical location and also the past colonial status and migration policy regimes.

Around 20 social activists, academics, thinkers from different countries like USA, Bangladesh, UK, New Zealand and India are attending the conference. — TNS
