Governor Martin Wambora has called on leaders to support the county to achieve its development goals.

Speaking at Kangaru Girls High School during his state of the county address at the weekend, Mr Wambora said the county government would capitalise on the strength of diverse communities to progress.

The occasion was attended by Deputy Governor Dorothy Nditi, nine MCAs and several bishops.

Wambora said the various communities residing in Embu were co-existing peacefully, and urged politicians to follow suit as they focus on development.

"We have a strategy towards unity and development by ensuring political stability. Going forward, this is what will attract investors to our county for wealth creation and employment creation for our youth," he said.

The governor said the immense natural resources in county could transform the region.

On infrastructure, Wambora said the county had acquired six graders that would be used to improve 105km of access roads, grade 590km of county roads and gravel 359km of other key roads.

"We are opening up the entire county by constructing access roads using mainly labour-based methods in order to create employment for our youth," he said.

He added the county had embarked on lighting projects and had installed floodlights in 39 township and markets in an effort to improve security and create a 24-hour economy.

"We have gone green by installing solar lighting in Embu town. This lighting system has CCTVs installed in order to enhance security on the Embu-Nairobi highway," he said.

On agriculture, Wambora said the county had raised the sector by providing free extension services, high quality seeds, construction of grain stores, construction of county coffee mill and water dams, among others.

He added the county was involved in value addition ventures in partnership with investors.

The governor also enumerated achievements in provision of water saying 1,200 water tanks had been given to schools while many homes had piped water.

Other areas the governor said the county had scored highly were in education, youth empowerment, trade, tourism, investment and industrialisation.
