Lucknow: After TOI carried a report highlighting the poor sanitation around bhandaras (feasts) on the first Bada Mangal, the district magistrate issued a series of instructions on May 25, addressing the stakeholder departments to check the menace. But the LMC doesn't seem have a plan in place to check littering. Around 500 big and an equal number of small bhandaras are to be set up in the city on the second Bada Mangal.
In the name of arrangements, two extra bins have been installed near Hanuman Setu and Aliganj temple.

On last Tuesday, organizers had complained that trash cans filled up too soon and garbage scattered all over. They had nowhere to empty the cans so . could not be emptied as they overflowed; with garbage scattered all around themso they could not empty the dustbins there and hence the disposables piled up on the roadside. One week on, nothing seems to have changed. In a reality check, TOI found that in several areas, including Hazratganj, Gokhale Marg, Kaiserbagh, Kanpur Road, Aliganj, Nirala Nagar and Chowk, trash cans are still overflowing.
The zonal officers were directed to maintain a record of all food distributing stalls in their respective zones along with contact details of organisers, the number of people expected and arrangements made for cleanliness. However, no such list has yet been prepared by the LMC officials. Zone I incharge Ashok Singh said, "As of now we only know of three-four big bhandaras which will be set up near major temples. Several small ones are unaccounted for. Sweeping will be conducted near all temples and major bhandaras in the evening itself."LMC's 28 sanitary inspectors would visit different venues and check if proper provisions have been made by the organizers, reminding people to use the bins.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Nand Lal Singh said, "Our sanitary workers and inspectors will be alert the entire day. Two extra dustbins are kept near major temples, we would also try to get main roads cleaned in the evening itself."
