Patna: RJD chief Lalu Prasad's elder daughter Misa Bharti, senior lawyer Ram Jethmalani, JD(U)'s former boss Sharad Yadav and UP cadre's former IAS official RCP Singh on Monday filed their nomination papers as ruling grand alliance's candidates for the biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha. While Bharti and Jethmalani are RJD candidates, Sharad and RCP were nominated by JD(U).

The alliance's five candidates for the legislative council polls also filed their papers on Monday. While Gulam Rasool Balyawi and C P Sinha are JD (U) candidates, S M Qamar Alam and Ranvijay Singh are RJD nominees. Former JNUSU functionary Tanveer Akhtar is the Congress candidate.
Five Rajya Sabha seats from Bihar and seven seats in the state legislative council are falling vacant in July this year. "All our alliance candidates will win," Lalu told reporters. In response to a question on the party's third candidate for the council polls, the RJD chief said the name would be announced soon.
BJP's Rajya Sabha nominee Gopal Narayan Singh and legislative council candidate Arjun Sahni are likely to file their papers on Tuesday, the last day for filing nomination papers. State BJP chief Mangal Pandey has already announced the party will field a second candidate in the council election.
If the RJD and BJP actually field third and second candidates respectively in the council polls, voting would become inevitable. The election to the council seats is slated for June 10 while the voting for the Rajya Sabha seats is scheduled for June 11.
The five RS members retiring are K C Tyagi, Pavan Kumar Varma, Gulam Rasool Balyawi, RCP and Sharad, all of JD(U).
