More than 65 headstones in a Fife graveyard have been damaged in a "deplorable act of vandalism", police said.

They were damaged and knocked over at Leslie Cemetery on Kinross Road, Glenrothes, over the weekend.

Insp Joanne McEwan appealed for help in tracing those responsible.

She said: "This is a truly deplorable act of vandalism and we are appealing to anyone who has any information that would help our enquiries."

She added: "This sort of incident causes a great deal of distress to families who've lost loved ones, and will no doubt be met with shock and sadness in the village and wider community."
