NCAA players hurt in separate motorcycle mishaps

Bad luck struck two NCAA players as they figured in separate motorcycle accidents in the past week.
San Sebastian forward Michael Calisaan got hurt in a freak motorcycle accident in Sta. Rita, Pampanga last May 22, while Lyceum center Joseph Gabayni was harmed in another mishap in Cainta, Rizal over the weekend.
Golden Stags coach Egay Macaraya said Calisaan, the NCAA Season 91 Most Improved Player, lost seven teeth and had his chin stitched up following the tragedy.
“Nautusan siya tapos nadulas yung motor,” Macaraya said. “Yung injury niya kasi is more sa ngipin niya. May tama din siya sa chin, mga six inches yung tahi. Tapos mga seven na ngipin ang natanggal.”
San Sebastian has shut down the 21-year-old in the preseason, hoping for Calisaan’s full recovery before the NCAA season.
“We’re hoping for a fast recovery and he could practice weeks before NCAA. But one thing I’m sure of is hindi ko siya minamadali. I want him to take his time and heal completely,” said Macaraya.
Gabayni, meanwhile, incurred lacerations on his face after his own motorcycle accident.
Pirates coach Topex Robinson said that the team has yet to find out the extent of Gabayni’s injury.
“As of now, we are not really sure for how long he will be out,” he said. “What’s important now is him getting better.”
