Give pension to contingent employees,says HRC
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state human rights commission (HRC) has directed the government to give pension to contingent employees of civic bodies. Two employees who had retired as sanitary workers from Thiruvananthapuram corporation; Madathi Sakunthala and A Bhaskaran Nair have been given renewed pension benefits of the year 2009.
Both of them had filed complaint with HRC saying that they should be given renewed pension from July 1, 2009.

According to officials, only those employees who had completed 30 years of service would be given pension. HRC questioned this condition and sought an explanation from corporation,local fund audit and finance department on this regard. Justice J B Koshy,chairman,HRC has directed the authorities to grant pension to employees with service below 27 years. Corporation secretary has communicated that Bhaskaran Nair and Sakunthala were given pension arrears of Rs 31702 and Rs 29928 respectively.
