No fried, fast food and cold drinks to pilgrims undertaking Amarnath yatra:SASB

Srinagar, May 30 (UNI) Pilgrims, undertaking the holy yatra to Amarnath Cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas, situated at 13500 feet above sea level, will not get fried, fast food and cold drinks. The annual pilgrimage will commence from July 2 from both tracks. Many pilgrims from different parts of the country have succumbed to illness and accidents last year when 3.51 lakh pilgrims had darshan of the self raising Ice-Shivlingam in the cave shrine. However, the pilgrims have been directed to consume plenty of carbohydrates to reduce fatigue and prevent low blood sugar levels while carring sufficient woolen clothing as the temperature may sometimes abruptly fall below 5 degree Celsius. The pilgrims have to trek a distance of 32 km from Chandanwari, the last motorable halting station on traditional route and 14 km from Baltal to reach the Holy Shrine. However, keeping in view the hostile nature of the Yatra area, the SASB has been issuing Health Advisories for pilgrims from time to time. Free food facility is available in the entire Yatra area at the Langars The pilgrims will not get puri, halwa, pizza, burger or stuffed parantha as the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) has banned all fried, fast food and cold drinks en route the holy shrine from both shortest Baltal and traditional Pahalgam . A spokesman of the SASB said that following the recommendations of the expert committee, pilgrims will only be served items which are not fried and without butter. Pilgrims will also not be allowed to consume cold drinks. The distribution of cold drinks has also been banned, he said, adding that this followed recommendations by an expert committee also comprising doctors. MORE UNI BAS ASM CJ 1124
