In a bid to strengthen its market share in the Indian two-wheeler market, Bajaj Auto is planning to launch two new products during this year’s festive season – Bajaj Platina 2016 and Pulsar CS400. Ever since the re-launch of CT100, the company has seen a rise in its numbers in the entry-level motorcycle segment and it expects to see its numbers getting even better after the Platina facelift enters the market.

The Bajaj Platina was first launched in 2006, and received an electric-start version in 2015. Though this time around, it is expected to receive some major changes. While there may not be any changes in the overall shape of the bike, it could receive all-new body panels, graphics and colour options. The commuter motorcycle’s engine too might go through minor changes.

The existing Bajaj Platina features a 102cc, singe-cylinder, air-cooled powertrain that develops 8bhp at 7000rpm and 8.6Nm at 5000rpm. With changes to its engines, we expect the 2016 Platina to be slightly more refined than the current model.

Though no clarity on its pricing yet, we expect the Bajaj Platina 2016 facelift to be priced similar to the current model that is priced at Rs 43,241 (ex-showroom, Delhi). Since the current model comes with alloy wheels and self-start, the new Bajaj Platina 2016 will retain these features. Having said that, the more logical thing for the company would be to bring a non-alloy version at a compelling price to target a much larger set of buyers.
