Veteran actor Suresh Chatwal, who played Salman Khan's father's role in "Karan Arjun," breathed his last on Saturday in Mumbai. The actor, who passed away after a prolonged illness, was cremated on Sunday in Mumbai.

Suresh's son Yaman issued a statement confirming his father's death. "With great grief, I inform you that my father, Suresh Chatwal is no more between us. He left for heavenly aboard yesterday succumbing to his ongoing illness," Yaman's said in a statement, according to the Press Trust of India

The cremation was carried out on Sunday at around 3.30 p.m. Other rituals like prayer meet will be held on May 31 (Tuesday) in Andheri, Mumbai, Daily Bhaskar reported.

Suresh is known for his work in films and television. The veteran actor made his acting debut with "Rakhi Rakhi" film, which was released in 1969. In his acting career, Suresh has worked with Salman, Shah Rukh Khan and Sanjay Dutt among others. His most memorable films are "Karan Arjun," "Munna Bhai MBBS," "Koyla" and "Nakshatra."

The veteran actor also worked in television and is known for playing the role of Dhukhiya in Doordarshan's "Nukkad." Suresh was last working on the popular comedy show "F.I.R.," which airs on SAB TV. He played the role of a commissioner on the show. His co-stars Kavita Kaushik, Sandeep Aanand and Aamir Ali took to social media to express their condolences.
