Woman killed for 'witchcraft', 5 held

Five persons were arrested on Sunday for allegedly killing a 65-year-old woman Mangri Mundain with batons and sticks because they thought she practised black magic.

Ranchi: Five persons were arrested on Sunday for allegedly killing a 65-year-old woman Mangri Mundain with batons and sticks because they thought she practised black magic.
The body of the woman was found on Saturday at Bohanda village where the victim lived under Arki police station area of Khunti. The accused belong to the same village.
Arki police station chief Bhagwan Jha said among the five Gango Munda is the prime accused.
"Gango's wife was sick for a few days and he believed that Mangri's black magic caused the ailment. He along with his son and and three others decided to kill her on Thursday night," Jha said.
A part of Red zone in Khunti, the village is located on Khunti-Saraikela Kharsawa border.
The village is not connected with any surface road and there is no proper channel of communication with the block headquarters as well. "The information reached us on Saturday. A team of police backed by armed personnel brought the body for postmortem," ASP Khunti, P R Mishra, said.
The arrested men have told the police that local witchdoctor Sukhram Munda informed them that Mangri's black magic caused the ailment. "The witchdoctor has also been arrested," ASP said.
The arrested men are Gangu Munda, 45, ,his son Soma Munda, 20, Badhwa Munda, 50, and his son Sanika, 25, besides Sukhram Munda.
