'Junior classes should have fewer textbooks'

With changing times and increasing competition, academicians today are feeling the need to change their approach towards studies and students. Many changes have been incorporated and many more are needed.
To start with, emphasis on practical study should be increased at the school level. Mere emphasis on theory is inadequate for kids to understand the world around them.
At the same time, there is a need to reduce the number of textbooks and exercise books in junior classes so that education does not become a burden for students.
Another important aspect is the introduction of new topics in a systematic manner. It has been noticed that the same chapters are being taught throughout the year in higher classes, especially in grammar. So, the syllabus should be systematic and rational.
As far as NCERT textbooks are concerned, there is an urgent need to increase the number of questions at the end of chapters. At the same time, the number of examples given in the chapters should also be increased so that students can prepare for the final exams.
Even as co-curricular classes are vital for the overall development of a student, co-curricular class projects should be finished before the commencement of the annual examination as they disrupt a student's preparations.

More importantly, better coordination among guardians, school authorities and students is needed. Without proper coordination among these three groups, the development of a student is bound to be cut short. Guardians and teachers should find ways of helping every student achieve his or her potential.
The government should take steps to stop the commercialization of education. This is needed because it has become impossible for certain students to continue their education due to the high fees charged by schools. The school fee structure should be regulated so that education is guaranteed for all.
