Car-Free Sundays on NSR Road are not only for fitness, games, and entertainment. There are messages to take home too.

On Sunday, employees of Roots Industries performed a mime on road safety. The organisation handed out 300 saplings to highlight the need for growing trees. Kavidasan, director of Roots Industries, spoke on environment protection and road safety.

C .Palanivelu, chairman of Gem Hospitals, stressed on the ill-effects of consuming tobacco. He said, “discipline is the strongest education.” He also instructed children to give importance to hygiene. He interacted with the participants and pointed out the need to include health education in the academic syllabus of schools.

The events started with a brisk one-hour fitness session by Bethovan and team. The sessions included kick boxing where the Body Zeal team helped people warm up, with lively music in the background. Tharun Iyer entertained the crowd with his mind reading experiments. The day’s programme included performance by a band of five children, residing at Saibaba Colony.

According to N. Swaminathan, a 50-year-old advocate, Car-Free Sundays are an opportunity for many to showcase their talents and should be organised in more places.

The vibrant morning ended with a classical dance performed by students of Coimbatore Cultural Academy.
