Envoy optimistic about Pak-India relations

LAHORE - Indian High Commissioner in Pakistan Gautam Bombawale who is on a two-day visit to the provincial metropolis had had meetings with politicians an businessmen to promote Pak India relations. On Saturday, he met former foreign minister Hina Rabbani Khar and on Sunday he had meeting with businessmen here.

In his meeting with Ms Khar he discussed Pakistan-India relations and the issues hampering their normalisation. Ms Hina shared with Mr Guatam her experience of working on Pakistan-Indian relations with her Indian counterpart in days when she was the FM. In meeting with businessmen, the Indian high commissioner explored opportunities of bilateral trade and related issues.

On Saturday, Mr Guatam also attended a diner hosted in his honour by a senior journalist. Speaking on the occasion, the Indian diplomat expressed his optimism that relations between India and Pakistan would soon be on the right track.

About his meeting with Ms Hina Rabbani Khar, Bombawale said he discussed with her the possibilities and ways of improving relations between the two neighbors.

Also, in an interview with a local news channel yesterday, Guatam said Indian Prime Minister would be coming to Islamabad in November this year to attend the SAARC summit.

 To a question, the high commissioner said that all outstanding issues between the two countries including that of Kashmir could be resolved through negotiations.
