Caste maths to decide party's UP nominee?
LUCKNOW: The BJP parliamentary board has decided to send Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi to Rajya Sabha from Jharkhand and not from Uttar Pradesh as believed earlier.
His nomination from UP seemed confirmed as the state party unit had recommended his name. The party has only one day to announce the candidate from UP, with May 31 being the last day for nominations.
UP BJP-in- charge Om Mathur would go to Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan, the board decided.
Keeping in mind the 2017 assembly elections in UP, the party might go for an OBC candidate such as Swatantra Deo Singh or Bhupendra Chaudhary. Dalits such as ex-DGP Brijlal or Jugul Kishore are also among contenders.
With BJP's strategy focussing on Dalits and non-Yadav OBCs, political analysts say the party does not want to annoy Brahmins. Names of several Brahmin candidates are also doing the rounds. Dinesh Sharma and Hriday Narain Dixit are also vying for the RS berth.
